Chhath Puja
The rigorous ancient Vedic festival dedicated to Surya Dev and Chhathi Maiya for health, prosperity, and gratitude.
Chhath Puja
Mythological Story
Chhath Puja traces its origin back to the Vedic era. Both Karna (son of Surya) and Draupadi worshipped the Sun God on Chhath to regain lost kingdom and fortune. Chhathi Maiya (Usha/Shasthi Devi), the cosmic sister of Surya Dev, is worshipped as the divine protector of children and family longevity.
Spiritual Significance
Chhath is unique as it pays homage to both the setting sun and the rising sun, acknowledging the cycles of life. The 36-hour waterless fast (Nirjala Vrat) detoxifies the body, strengthens will-power, and invokes cosmic solar energy.
Puja Vidhi & Celebration
The four-day festival includes Nahay-Khay (purification), Kharna (evening kheer prasad), Sandhya Arghya (standing in water at sunset to offer thekua and fruits in bamboo soop), and Usha Arghya (sunrise prayer).
